Since 2023 we have partnered with Johnson State Prison with their Tails of Success Program. The program objectives include:
· Enhance Offender Rehabilitation
· Promote Canine Welfare
· Strengthen Community Engagement
The rescues dogs arrive at the prison and are evaluated for health and personality traits to help pair the dogs with the pre-screened inmates. The inmate handlers work with trainers once a week to learn basic commands to work on with the dogs. The dogs room with their handlers, and get continued interaction with not only the handlers, but all of the inmates in the Veteran Honor Unit at the prison.
Any dogs not adopted at the end of their training cycle will remain at the prison and start the next training cycle along with any additional dogs brought in. The program is looking to expand to allow the inmates to earn certifications as veterinary technicians or groomers. Training is looking to expand to advanced training for service dogs, guide dogs, therapy dogs, and emotional support dogs.

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Johnson State Prison!
